This quartzite retouched flake is from the New England Tablelands region of New South Wales.  The area is within the traditional country of the Jukumbal people.

This artefact is cared for on-country west of Inverell by the Jukumbal people.  The artefact was retrieved by Jukumbal representatives and loaned to Archaeology and Palaeoanthropology at the University of New England for 3D modelling, after which it was returned back to its location on-country.

This retouched flake is made from moderately coarse-grained orthoquartzite.  It is likely a local variant of silcrete.  The platform is single-facet and the flake was struck down a ridge formed by prior parallel removals.  The bend-initiated damage to the thin distal end may be from use-wear.  The lateral edges are unifacially retouched by striking blows against the blank’s ventral surface.  Both of these edges show microflaking damage, likely from use.  Iron from the soil has stained the artefact, mostly on the edges and dorsal ridges.
